IGBC Gold rating

For the second time, Tata Cummins Ltd has been awarded a “Gold” rating by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). The factory is located at the Megasite, Phaltan, India. Tata Motors LTD is a joint venture of Cummins and we are very proud of this prestigious rating.

India is placing more importance on becoming a green country and many companies have a keen interest in having a holistic green design and construction framework for new factories. IGBC developed the first ever rating system to measure sustainability in industrial buildings. The program addresses national environmental concerns and quality of life among factory workers.

The high-quality Phaltan plant was opened in January of 2011. The B-series engines are produced there for our automotive, industrial and power generation markets. With a multitude of influence from Cummins’ Global Facility Policy to influence from leaders as well as hard work from the facility team, the Phaltan plant was created with environmental safety at the forefront.

Some design features are:

  • An energy efficient building envelope
  • Ample use of natural light and energy efficient lighting
  • Landscaping with efficient irrigation system
  • Water-efficient fixtures and rainwater harvesting
  • Use of environmental-friendly building construction materials

Going forward, the Phaltan plant will help us optimize energy consumption while minimizing ourimpact on the environment and society. We are very proud of this rating and we want to thank all who made this possible!
