“Diversity goes hand-in-hand with our strategy to become one of the world’s best companies…” – Tom Linebarger, Chairman and CEO, Cummins Inc.
As Cummins continues to move from a multinational to global company, it becomes increasingly important to embrace diversity and promote inclusion. Diversity in all its dimensions drives innovation and makes the company a successful, welcoming place to work.
Further the company’s commitment to promoting gender diversity and inclusion, Cummins has joined more than 1,100 companies from around the world in signing the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs).
The seven principles were established to emphasize the business case for promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment. They provide guidance for how to empower women in the workplace, marketplace and community and encourage employers to develop or update procedures and policies to support women’s empowerment. By stressing the importance of leadership, development and training, as well as community leadership and engagement, the principles cover a broad range of topics that cultivate the right environment for women and men to succeed.
Developed through a collaboration between the U.N. Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women and the U.N. Global Impact, the Principles are:
Cummins first became aware of the Principles through the Cummins Brazil Women’s Affinity Group which hosted Nadine Gasman, a representative from the U.N. Women, on March 1, 2016 for a special ceremony which recognized Cummins as a signee.
“Diversity goes hand-in-hand with our strategy to become one of the world’s best companies. Cummins thinks of diversity and inclusion not as something we do in addition to our business; we think of it as a competitive advantage to achieving our growth strategy,” said Chairman and CEO Tom Linebarger. “By signing the U.N. Women’s Empowerment Principles, we are reinforcing our belief that using the power of diverse people and teams enables Cummins to better support our customers and be more competitive in the marketplace.”
As Cummins continues to make strides in the advancement of women in the workplace, the company will also continue to promote and foster all aspects of diversity. Cummins is proud to support this initiative.
