The Minnesota Department of Health has named Cummins Power Generation a Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace for its contributions to the health of mothers and their babies. Cummins Power Generation was one of seven employers given this distinction in the first year of the recognition program.
Companies were recognized for their commitment to supporting breastfeeding mothers through a workplace lactation support program: adopting a written policy and educating staff about it; ensuring adequate break time for breastfeeding employees; providing a clean, private place to pump breast milk; and demonstrating a strong commitment to supporting breastfeeding in the workplace.
“Cummins Power Generation is proud to support mothers returning to work who choose to breastfeed their children,” said Antonio Leitao, Vice President – Cummins Inc. and President – Power Generation Business. “Our company has worked diligently to provide breastfeeding-friendly facilities, resources and support for our employees across our Minnesota sites. It’s well documented that breastfeeding is the first step toward a lifetime of healthy living, so we are honored to receive this award.”
Breastfeeding is a foundational way to ensure that babies receive optimal nutrition during the first formative years of life. Studies show that infants who are breastfed have better health outcomes as they grow.
