The prestigious B.G Deshmukh Award for outstanding work in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility is being given to Cummins India, for the second time, by the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA), for having made significant efforts in improving the communities. The Award, now in its sixth year, has been instituted to honor the contribution of Shri. B.G. Deshmukh, former Cabinet Secretary, Government of India, in the field of Social Development. This award is keenly contested by respected corporations across India.
A structured approach to Corporate Responsibility projects undertaken through various Six Sigma (performance improvement) tools has led to the Award being bestowed upon the Company. Company-wide initiatives like the Every Employee Every Community (EEEC) initiative as well as the nation-wide ‘Catch Them Young Environmental Awareness Program’ and various other projects like the Zero Garbage Project, Traffic Signals Synchronization Project and the Model Village project, have brought phenomenal difference and greatly impacted the lives of people in Pune and Phaltan, Maharashtra. The scalability and sustainability of these projects is tremendous with great potential to involve more and more employees, going forward.
S. Ravichandran, Head- Corporate Responsibility, Cummins in India, accepted the award on behalf of the Company, in a ceremony held to congratulate the winners. The award once again endorses Cummins’ significant sustainable contributions towards improving our communities.
