This quarter, Cummins Emission Solutions is celebrating several Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system manufacturing milestones. With 500,000 SCR units built in Pretoria, South Africa and 100,000 SCR units built in Darlington in the United Kingdom, the company’s global manufacturing footprint continues to support its regional customers with customized solutions around the world.

On July 4, 2013 the Cummins Emission Solutions South Africa plant manufactured its 500,000th SCR system in a short 15 months after reaching the 400,000th mark on April 13 of 2012. Achieving the production goal of manufacturing the 500,000th system has been a motivating milestone for employees at the plant, and has fostered greater productivity and a sense of product ownership with the employees at the plant.

“Employees were overjoyed that they had lived up to the Cummins mission of ‘demanding that everything we do leads to a cleaner, healthier, safer environment,’” said Patrick Mohale, Operations Manager at the Pretoria, South Africa plant. “Because of the plant’s efforts, hundreds of thousands of trucks and buses are transporting goods and people across Europe, Brazil, Australia and Japan. These more efficient Euro 4 and Euro 5 trucks and buses safeguard the environment for future generations.”

August 22, 2013 marks the celebration of the 100,000th SCR built at the Darlington plant in the United Kingdom. Darlington’s first SCR system was manufactured in January of 2008. To commemorate this milestone, employees at the facility hosted the customer who received this celebrated SCR system, Leyland Trucks, a wholly-owned subsidiary of PACCAR Inc.

“It is a great achievement for the Darlington Plant to reach 100,000 SCR units,” said Christopher Willoughby, Darlington Plant Manager. “Commercial vehicle customers expect increasingly cost effective and innovative solutions to enhance the performance of their vehicles or equipment, whilst importantly reducing emissions levels to near zero. The recent milestone shows we are successfully providing the right emissions solutions to our customers.”
