Recently, Cummins China and Dongfeng Cummins established the 100th Cummins Library at Sunzhuang Elementary School in Xiang’yang, Hubei province, marking a significant milestone for Cummins’ continuous effort over the years to help encourage and inspire students to read.

Working with a non-profit organization, The Library Project, more than 50 Cummins employee volunteers and CIT leaders who attended China Corporate Responsibility Annual Conference from entities across the country brought students a diverse selection of more than 1,500 high-quality extracurricular books, student desks, school supplies and sports equipment. Representatives from Cummins China, Dongfeng Cummins, Sunzhuang Elementary School and the Department of Education attended the donation ceremony.

“As a local resident and a member of this community, I am extremely proud to be a part of Cummins, and to witness the establishment of the 100th library in Xiang’yang city,” said Dongfeng Cummins General Manager Wang Ning in his opening speech at the ceremony. “Since our first Cummins library in 2008, over 8,000 Cummins employees across the nation have been dedicated to improving students’ education environment through a variety of meaningful projects like this.”

Sunzhuang Elementary School principal Wenfang Tian expressed her excitement in an interview. “We are very fortunate and thankful to receive these thoughtfully selected books and teaching furniture and equipment from Cummins. Education is key to our nation’s future and I believe these books, as well as the corporate citizen example Cummins demonstrated, will not only improve kids’ extracurricular reading, but also inspire them and help them explore in the sea of knowledge outside the classroom.”

Following the donation ceremony, Cummins volunteers interacted with students in sports competitions. Volunteers from both Cummins and The Library Project worked together to train the librarians. Tom Stader, the founder of The Library Project, also participated and gave students an interesting English lesson.
